Nataoka Nest: Our Warehouse & Creative Space

Hello everyone! This year marks the 7th year of our brand coming to life. It is time for us to openly share our backstory and in house activities. You’re probably wondering where and how Nataoka produces its products. We're beyond thrilled to introduce you to our adventure and our haven– into the realm of conscious and ethical fashion. 

As you all know, Nataoka was established by Desi Astriani, our gifted and loving founder.  Curious about the world, she began her travelling journey to explore and answer her what-ifs and what-to-do. She found her passion most in the fashion industry where freedom of expression and creativity lies. Taking pride in our Indonesian culture, Nataoka is locally owned and ethically made in Bali. Which brings us to ‘HOW’ does Nataoka do it?

Nataoka’s warehouse, its root and nest of it all is in the village of Desi’s home, where families and friends are. You might wonder, why build the Nataoka Nest here in Tabanan, why not in Canggu or Seminyak, the public’s favourite and convenience of Bali? Well, first of all, when it comes to building the Nataoka Nest, she had extensive preparations and planning of how she wanted her working lifestyle to be; representing the mood of Nataoka. She wished for the women in her hometown to have opportunities to work and create, which is why she was certain to construct the base in Tabanan. Now, here today around 95% of the employees are female. Each and everyone of them is highly valued and significant in the Nataoka community, even you, our customer is our friend. Welcome to the Nataoka community!!

So, let’s begin a tour of our warehouse, shall we?

We have the Pattern Making & Cutting Team:

As pattern creation entails generating templates for cutting and stitching fabric pieces into clothing, it is essential in every fashion house. It acts as a link between the idea of a designer and the actual making of the apparel. In Nataoka, we have Ibu Eli and Bapak Gusti as our pattern maker.

Just like every other fashion production house, we need to do plenty of sampling before curating fits you adore. Sampling serves as a checkpoint for quality control, identifying production and design faults early on. By doing this, expensive errors and delays are avoided that may arise if repairs are later required. We have Ibu Pani to thank for envisioning our design into reality.

Speaking of quality control, we have Bu Risal, Eva, and Ibu Ranti for packing and QC. It is important to us that the quality is maintained and fitting to our standards. We want you to be able to wear Nataoka for a long time, feeling comfortable and chic.

Moving on, at the back of our warehouse, there lies our production and sewing resources. We have several freelance seamstresses that are free to use our resources and room for sewing. Some find comfort in sewing at home, therefore it is with our pleasure to create and have a safe space for them to sew wherever they want.

Meet Roggi, our bundle of joy with soulful eyes that is always ready to greet and assist you with his wagging tail and delightful personality. Roggi’s calming presence brightens everyone’s working spirit. His daily routine is to ensure the space is safe and enjoyable in the sewing room.

Last, but not least would be the head office team, where administrative, marketing and management work thrive. We have Desi, Putri, Lely, Sely and Anna bringing together a variety of experience and talents, ranging from technical wizards and meticulous project managers to creative fashion designers and strategic thinkers. The mix of women on the team is diverse and each one is an authority in her speciality.  The crew entirely embodies Nataoka’s brand image and identity. They are personable, warm, welcoming, and radiate confidence in their capacity to both meet and beyond your expectations.  

In the Nataoka Nest, we want our family and friends to feel at ease and comfort while being productive. This has been Desi’s main objectives and priority when it comes to creating this brand and it is with her constant positive energy and legacy that Nataoka continues to improve and innovate.
